The collidascopic eyes of Leilainia.

Born into the world of art and dance in El Paso, Texas, I was constantly surrounded by philosophers, artists, performances, writers and people of inspiration an passion. They taught me Middle Eastern Dance. They taught me steps and showmanship. They taught me not in a class setting, but in a life setting. I learned through watching, playing and appreciating. It was a terrific fantasy land of preparation, performance and creation. It was a dream of mystical colors constantly shifting and entertaining. I watched as these wonderful creators told their stories through art. But I was young. I had no story of my own. I had no inner trauma, turmoil, love or loss. I had no formulated truths. I was simply a goddess in training. My mother would take me with her to yoga, African dance, Middle Eastern dance, ballet, modern and flamenco classes. I thought this was the normal life.

As I grew I learned through the uniqueness of my upbringing and nourished it. I am trained in Cabaret, Gypsy, Fusion, Egyptian and Turkish Belly Dance. I have studied and given workshops in Texas, New Mexico, New York and California.

Dance is not a hobby to me. It is me.

Adelaide is a spiraling tornado of creativity.

She was born and raised in El Paso, Texas by parents who, being artists themselves, grounded her to a truly innovative mindset. Her father illustrated the significance of art, creativity and self-motivation through his transforming life experiences as a struggling artist to a locally famous painter. Adelaide’s mother demonstrated the relevance of physical expression through her art as a beautiful and diverse dancer. These two artists’ created three lovely and talented children, Adelaide being the youngest.
As a second generation dancer and being of Syrian decent, Belly Dance is Adelaide’s most grounding art form, however still only a branch sprouting from a dense tree of expression. She fuses her various training in Middle Eastern, Indian, Modern, Ballet, Hip-Hop and African dance to create a truly unique and theatrical blend of movements. In August of 2005 she took the leap to move to San Diego and create a Middle Eastern dance Company with her sister Leilainia. They successfully formed The Shimmy Sisters and are blessed with the privilege of using their dance and teaching skills as a sustainable way of life.
Adelaide is constantly cultivating her mind, body and spirit to enhance her performances. Acrobatics, yoga, writing, music and meditation are fluid practices in her life, which she brings to play in the field of dance, healing, and psychology. She studies psychology, medicine and healing arts, which supports her desire to contribute to a higher level of living and connects her with other talented and motivated beings of creativity.
As a visual artist as well Adelaide has a great eye for attractive images and color, which is helpful in promotion and staged shows. Adelaide aspires to use her limitless expressions to enhance her life into an art form of spontaneity and balance. Her life is similar to a juggling act, as she is currently a full-time student studying both dance and psychology. Adelaide understands that art is not independent of any portion of her interests or studies, but instead adds originality to any undertaking.  “I can explain myself best without speaking a word.
